Mr. Torges- I recently purchased your video on boo bows. You have done a great job on it to say the least.
In the video you plane the boo down flat to start out with.Have you used any of the flat bamboo that is already milled from Bamboo & Rattan Works?Or do you buy culms?Tonkin or moso?
Thanks,Marty C.
Marty, I purchase my bamboo from Bamboo and Rattan Works as milled planks. I do not use Tonkin. It is a thin-walled, small diameter bamboo and requires extensive, specialized work to use it as backing. When you call B&RW, tell them what you want the bamboo for and they will know what to select for you.
The bamboo from B&RW is not nearly thin enough to be glued to slats. You will need to remove a great deal of the pithy part of the bamboo either on the jointer or on the bandsaw, ripping off the waste. Then follow the procedure in the video: trace on your pattern, bring it to outline, and then further reduce the bamboo so that it is less than 1/8" on the nock and either uniformly thin along the edges, or tapering toward the nock.
Thanks Dean, I appreciate the knowledge.I am going to try building a few bamboo bows shortly.I have been building selfbows for about 10 years now,but I'm not sure my back will hold up to it anymore. The power tools are looking better and better all the time.I had spinal fusion surgery 3 wks ago so its slowed me down a little.
Thanks for the video,You did a great job with it.I think it will
keep me busy for another 10 years I'm sure.
thanks,Marty
Yikes. I'd think it would. Just a little, anyway.

Wish you all the best, Marty.
