Well I'm officially out now. As the rules go I had a automatic entry, with a bow of choice. I had one made and I felt it was the best bow I've built to date, but I guess I pushed small design a bit to much.My sap wood osage sucker lost 5 lbs, sometime? Not sure when it happened,as before I layed the finish, all was well.I have been shooting it off an on since, but never noticed any change. Was getting ready to go to C-dale and figured I'd give it a going over.I noticed the weight seemed light so I checked it. Too light. Closer inspection shows some very fine frets along the side of the top limb, all contained within one growth ring. The tiller has held and the lil bow still bounces back to 2" reflex, but the weight is gone.So I am out for this year. Still have a great shooting/huntin bow and plan on useing it this fall,so nothing is lost.

So Tom Thumbs up, the incumbant is gone.Smile

Good luck to all the entrants.

Cut a couple inches off that baby and send it in. I want to beat the best. hehe

Seriously, that is one fine bow regardless of weight. It looks like a 30lb bow, its so skinny. Tiller was still pretty. You don't think the knotty wood contributed? Guess you were living on the edge with respect to a lot of parameters, width, length, sapwood and knotty.

Long live Timo, ABC King. A benevolent despot, always had time to throw the little guy some crumbs from his johnnycake.
That just plain sucks!!! TimO, but we do work with wood, ain't like steel where ya can get a metallurgist to rate it for us. Your still the finest bowyer I know, next to that guy DeanO.
Dang Son!....ya got time to crank out a nudder one...

R
Dang Timo! That sucks,,sounds like you had a good one too.

But I tell ya what's worse then that,,we didn't get to meet up at Cloverdale! I'll bet at times we passed each other but with all the stuff to see it just didn't happen. I got there later then I wanted to (Saturday morning,,my original plan was Friday) we went to the 3D range and shot both courses, went back to camp, by then it was time to start all the cook'n! We cooked up moose, caribou and deer over the fire. I kept think'n I would take a break and go to the Ferret's camp and meet you but it just never happened. I never even made it to the big tents to see all the neat stuff until late Sunday morning. Don't suppose your going to Compton are you?

Dean tole me that I had time to crank out a nuther, but with these lil bows ya just can't crank them out like a kids rattan.Besides my bowyerin juices have ceased for the year. Onto squirrel arras, and fine tuning for the up coming fall.Course then there is the work thang.

Richard I had concluded that you were not even there? I asked around a bit but never ran into ya.Sad, as I was looking forward to meeting ya.maybe next year?

Not going to Comptons but will be at Mojam. Best gatherin yet,IMO. Smile

I did get a look see at Tom Thumbs up entry.Perty cool lil curvey thang. Lots of work me thinks? Had a hard time deciferin all that jiberish on the back, but Dean had a comment or 2.(Can't member that word he used though) Smile

Again Good luck to all.

What between the bow and the beer that TomThumbs brought, I decided he needed an upgrade in name. Henceforth, hereafter and evermore: TomThumbsUP!
Tim those were symbols for the Chinese elements earth, water and wood. I liked your Earth Wind and Fire translation better though, nothing like a little Shining Star or Boogie Wonderland. Or their classic After the Love Has Gone, might play that after the contest to make me feel better.

Dean's word for the decoration was "versimilitude". Which, in retrospect (that means after I looked it up), is probably accurate.
