Full Version: What to do with this little bit of Osage

I've got a piece of Osage that is 54" l x 7/8" w x 3/4" d. Grain is almost good enough to do without a backing - but I don't think I quite trust it without.

Do you think it has a chance to be a bow?
I thought about a static recurve on the limbs and then back it. Haven't got a clue as to what poundage I could do with it. I also thought about a takedown sleeve on it.

Any ideas that you would do with it?

(Just noticed the "Experts..." section. Probably need to move this thread over there, but I don't know how. Maybe the admin can do for me?)
Why not make a kids bow out of it?
If you want to make a bow for yourself I would think you would almost have to make a D bow from it.
I think a bend through the handle D-bow with a sinew backing perhaps. no need for a td sleeve on a bow that short.
54 is a good length for a D-bow, may as well give it a try and see what happens!
good luck

Make a bow that bends in the handle. Should be good for low 20's for a draw length. Jawge
